Couture Doll Installation
A proposed contemporary art installation that transforms a familiar childhood object through Cambodian fashion and imagination.
One of our earliest memories is often of a favourite toy: a doll, a teddy bear, or a handmade figure lovingly stitched by a parent or grandparent. These objects can become symbols of imagination, comfort and home.
The supplied proposal imagines an installation in which twenty-five of Cambodia’s leading fashion designers each create a one-of-a-kind couture garment for a collectible doll, interpreting childhood through their own artistic vision.
Proposed installation
A miniature world.
The proposal describes visitors entering an immersive miniature world where couture dolls inhabit scenes inspired by memories of childhood. Each doll becomes a character with its own story, with Wilbur the Purple Dog guiding visitors through the exhibition.
Its design reference draws on the theatrical presentation of miniature couture by the House of Dior and the historic Théâtre de la Mode. The source describes this as inspiration rather than replication.
